New Followers!

Hey! I just noticed that I have 11 followers!

I’m flattered you enjoy my work enough to follow me here.

To be honest, I started this page because I’m impulsive and I like to throw myself 100% head-first into my pleasures and pursuits.

I picked up my first DSLR roughly two years ago because I’ve always enjoyed photography, and my wife persuaded me to buy a bundled kit at BJs for about $400. It was the Canon T3, an entry-level DSLR, but still much more advanced than my Sony point & shoot which I had received for Christmas about nine years ago.

I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew I wanted more than simply setting the camera into Auto mode and then going with that. My thought process was that if I am going to learn how to use a camera, then I’m truly going to learn how to use the camera.

I twisted the knob on top of the camera over to Manual mode, shifted around a few of the settings, and snapped my first picture of a street sign outside my apartment. The photo was pitch black.

What followed after that was about two years of trial and error, YouTube tutorials (shout out to Jason Lanier and Jared Polin), practicing, testing out new ideas, and pushing myself in new and challenging situations (ie bridal showers, newborn photos, a maternity shoot, photojournalism of my daughter’s birth, etc).

I don’t have all the answers. I’m not perfect. I still run into problems from time to time. I don’t know if these problems arise from the camera’s limitations or my own inexperience and ignorance. I still look at some others’ photos on Flickr and other websites and I still tell myself I’ll never shoot photos as stunning, as crisp and clear, as vibrant, as creative, as flat-out awesome as their photos.

All I know is that this is a passion which has not died down over the course of two years. The spark turned into a flame, which in turn turned into a full-on inferno. In my eyes, I’ve captured some stunning and powerful images – moments in time which otherwise would have been lost to memory or the unobserved, and I’m flattered that there are eleven of you out there (in addition to my wife and parents) who appreciate my efforts in some sort of way.

Thank you!
